At the moment I see a counsellor every week. I have wanted to write about this for a while as it has been so helpful for me. The only problem with counsellors is the price you have to pay to see one. Before I start moaning, the one that I see is great, understands brain injury and has a very reasonable fee. When I first had my brain injury I was very lucky as there was a service available to me who had psychologist who helped me with my rehabilitation but when that came to an end, there was no mental health support. I have spoken to some people about this and it is a known problem. The problem is that when a person has a brain injury they may be unable to work so are unable to pay for expensive counselling sessions. One that I looked at was over £100 for a 50 minute session. That is just ridiculous. As I have said I am so lucky to have found someone who really understands the problems I am having and it is so much easier who is impartial to your life. You don’t want to say everything you are thinking to your family or friends. I feel that in the future that perhaps I should do some counsellor training as it is so hard for someone with a brain injury to find the right help. My fees would be very reasonable as well. I will have to add it to my growing list of things that want to do now.
